Looking Forward to 2025!

Stay tuned for exhibits, presentations and interactive workshops for 2025. In 2023 and 2024, The Science Jar (tm) is thankful to have had the opportunity to do exhibits, displays and interactive exhibits and workshops at The Milford Public Library, The Clinton-Macomb Public Library, St. Clair County Public Library, and the Center Line Public Library. An interactive workshop was conducted at the CLPL and a two day interactive educational display at the 2023 Earth Fair. Stay tuned for the 2025 calendar of events as it develops. Some respond with "ewwwwwwwwww" others with "cool!" Regardless, it is through The Science Jar (tm) that many people learn for the first time that cyclops do exist! that rotifers play important roles in our fisheries! that vorticella are amazing for bioengineering and that stylonychia are a ciliate that can actually crawl as well as that these microorganisms are important for natural water clean-up of natural detritus and pollutants that end up in our waters as well as human health and medical advancement. The microorganisms this project are focused on may be small but they are important and I am looking forward to a 2025 filled with events! Stay Tuned!

Types of Events that The Science Jar (tm) does and is available for:

A) Informative Photo Displays. These are displays of photos of freshwater microorganisms observed in the jar throughout the years and captured by yours truly along with accompanying acryllic placquards that include some random information about them as far as the roles they play in the ecosystem, their value in research and other ways they are important (such as with wastewater, human health research, bioremediation etc etc) that I have obtained through extensive reading of scholarly research articles on these microorganisms. These are usually put on at local libraries which have display cases or other convenient ways of setting up such a display.

B) Interactive Workshops. These are hands on workshop with student groups or clubs or other organizations which are nature related to allow individuals the opportunity to use microscopes to look for freshwater microorganisms on their own from either The Science Jar itself or from their own water collections that they bring in to the workshop. Historically these have been done at the Center Line Public Library. They usually last 1-1.5 hours.

C) Interactive Displays. These are a combination of photo, video and brief hands-on opportunities for individuals. These are usually done at bigger events like Earth Fair in Goodells County Park (the second annual one of that already happened this year; and there is one coming up June 1st as well at the Thumb Heritage Festival. See the event set-up from Earth Fair to get an idea.

Thank you to everyone who came and stopped by The Science Jar (tm)'s interactive display at Earth Fair 2024 at Goodells County Park and there were a LOT over the course of the two day event April 26th - April 27th

(read more about the day and see what was observed in the Status section).

Hope to see you next year or at other events coming up!
